giving God the Glory

I was checking out of the grocery the other day…had to run in to get hamburger for dinner. Don’t you hate it when you have everything you need for dinner, except the main ingredient? Anyway, as I was checking out the cashier was telling the customer in front of me about having surgery on her leg when she was on vacation in Haiti. She had only been there a couple of hours and stepped off a curb into an open sewer and broke her ankle badly enough to require pins etc. She said that the Doctor told her that if the bone had gone through the skin, or she had scraped her skin open when she fell, she would have had to have her foot amputated because of the germs involved in the open sewers….as we gasped about it, she commented, “I am so glad that it happened because it gives me the opportunity to share how good God is. Satan tried to get me down, but God kept me from having my bones break through the skin! And I still have my foot.”

Wow….and I have been plodding through these days of financial uncertainty without taking the time to remember that I have food in my belly, clothes on my back, a wonderful family, a landlord who is as grateful for us as we are for her, and most of all, a God who is in control of all the details!

I know that I have told Him thanks on many different days, but my overall attitude of the heart has been sluggish and dull, not filled with gratitude. I have been looking at the magnitude of my problems from the bottom of the hill. Listening to that cashier reminded me that God sees the problems from the top….and I just need to focus on Him and not the mountain ahead!

My good friend Stacia blogged the other day about her mom’s cancer and her husband’s layoff. She then listed her blessings….What a good reminder of the old song! “count your many blessings see what God has done!” I am not going to list mine all today….two of my blessings finished their movie and need my attention! :) But, I am going to think about them and bring what God IS DOING in my life to the forefront of my attention. Thanks to Stacia and the cashier for reminding me how Good is God!!!
